Boulder-based Warren Miller Entertainment, the granddaddy of all ski-film production companies, is celebrating 65 years in the business this week with its latest film, No Turning Back. Think about that for a minute: Warren Miller began making ski films in 1949.
And while Miller himself is no longer directly involved in the company’s projects, this one — like the 64 before it — is a lighthearted, globe-trotting romp featuring some of the sport’s finest practitioners, including Vail’s Chris Anthony, who is celebrating his own anniversary.
“This is my 25th year skiing in these films,” says Anthony, who traveled to Alaska’s Chugach Mountains for the project. “The secret is that each of these films is only about the joy of skiing, and that never gets old.”
Beaver Creek also has a starring role, in a segment that features racers Julia Mancuso, Ted Ligety, Bode Miller and Mikaela Shiffrin competing at a 2014 World Cup event in anticipation of the 2015 World Championships.
Denver screenings, which run through the weekend, kick off tonight at 8 p.m. at the Paramount Theatre, 1621 Glenarm Place; tickets are $25 and include vouchers for free lift tickets at Monarch Mountain and Powderhorn, among other discounts. Visit warrenmiller.com for reservations and details.
