UPDATE: The newest member of the Katie Mullen’s family is up and running. Wee Katie’s is now serving up beer and a trimmed-down menu at its location in Highland.

Katie Mullen’s just marked its sixth anniversary on the 16th Street Mall this week and now that giant Irish bar is about to get a baby sister. A wee baby sister. After putting plenty of money and effort into creating a four-part, 550-seat Irish pub in the Sheraton, the owners of Katie Mullen’s bought the former Rockstar Bar at 3358 Mariposa Street in early 2013. At the time, they thought it might take a little over two months to turn the biker bar into a more upscale watering hole. Now, more than two years later, Wee Katie’s is almost ready to open.

Turns out the original building needed a lot more work than they thought it would, and while they were renovating the place, they added a couple of patios, one with a stunning view of downtown. In fact, the entire transformation is stunning.

The 99-seat (not including those patios) Wee Katie’s has some of the feel of Katie Mullen’s, with a big bar (with lots of beer), dark wood, tile floors and comfortable seating. While it’s definitely more wee, the place looks like it will be big fun — once it gets through its final inspection, which could be as early as this afternoon, according to partner Larry Fahy.
