The Denver mayor and City Council hand out an honorary proclamations nearly everyday. Organizations as varied as martial arts dojos and garden clubs are honored for their unique contributions to the city. It seems only fitting that NORML, a marijuana legalization group holding its convention in Denver today, should get an Honorary Proclamation that reads as follows:

WHEREAS, NORML’s recent creation of the NORML Women’s Alliance has inspired several Denver pot-smoking Republican mothers to launch the successful Marijuana Moms Like Me website; and…
WHEREAS, NORML’s reform efforts have helped Colorado politician Jared Polis feel more comfortable dressing like Willie Nelson to deliver keynote luncheon speeches about marijuana prohibition; and…
WHEREAS, NORML’s encouragement of plentiful and accessible marijuana has sparked the creative and entrepreneurial spirit of Denver residents and has revitalized small business start-ups and increased commercial real estate activity; and…
WHEREAS, NORML and other marijuana-advocacy organizations that support ‘4/20’ rallies and gatherings are helping the Denver economy by filling hotels and restaurants during April, traditionally one of the slowest months of the year for hospitality businesses.
NOW THEREFORE: Be it proclaimed by the City Council, the Mayor, and even the Governor, that as of the commencement of the 40th annual NORML conference held from April 21-23, 2011, Denver, Colorado shall proudly claim to be:
The Most NORML City in America.
