Portugal. The Man returned to the Mission Ballroom on November 19 for its Denali Tour, spotlighting its latest album, SHISH, with sets that balanced new material and longtime favorites. Ya Tseen opened the show with a blend of electronic synth beats, indie-rock guitar work and Indigenous-pop influences. Led by Alaskan-Indigenous artist Nicholas Galanin, the group delivered an energetic performance that set the tone for the evening.
Portugal. The Man opened the first set with a strong run of songs from the new album. “Denali,” “Angoon,” and “Knik” connected immediately, showcasing the album’s darker, more reflective sound and leaning into the contrast between digital overload and the need for quiet, grounding moments — a theme frontman John Gourley discussed in an interview leading up to the show.

The second set shifted toward crowd-pleasers and mid-era essentials. “Purple Yellow Red and Blue,” “Modern Jesus,” and “Live In The Moment” all drew big reactions, while “Feel It Still” naturally sent the room buzzing. Even with the familiar hits in the mix, the SHISH material held its own thanks to its haunting melodies and stripped-down emotional weight.

Before wrapping up the night, the band highlighted two causes they continue to champion: Pass The Mic, which centers on amplifying community voices, particularly within Indigenous communities, and Frances Changed My Life, which raises awareness and research funding for DHDDS, supporting Gourley’s daughter Frances and millions of children worldwide living with rare diseases.
Portugal. The Man delivered a purposeful, well-paced show — one that confidently pushed its new direction while staying connected to the fans who’ve supported the band for years.
