Nothing says Colorado history like mining, and no place says it better than Georgetown, which celebrates our storied past every year with the annual Historic Georgetown Railroad & Mining Days event. Today and tomorrow, the picturesque mountain town holds a celebration on Sixth Street, featuring rides on the Georgetown Loop Railroad; tours of the Lebanon Silver Mine; river-rafting; ATV tours; a professional pack-burro race; an old-time fiddle contest; live music and storytelling; kids’ activities such as a kids’ burro race, a petting zoo, games and contests, face painting, model trains and a Thomas the Tank Engine play station. In addition, all of Georgetown’s unique shops and restaurants will be open for perusing and munching.

Grab the family and make a day of it: Georgetown is located on I-70, west of Idaho Springs and east of Silver Plume. For information, visit www.georgetowncolorado.org.
