It’s a brave proposition to start a new theater troupe, but Wit Theatre Company, an ensemble of eight that formed just a few months ago, is ready to put on its first show. Make that almost ready.
Theater veterans will tell you that money is the hardest thing to come by — not just when you’re starting out, but sometimes even when you’re well-established. So Wit’s supporters are hoping to cushion the company’s debut by throwing a fundraiser, a variety show featuring a little improv and a little comedy, some music and some performance, along with a silent auction.
And it’s easy to join this fun fundraiesr: The show runs from 6:30 to 10 p.m. tonight at Blake Street Tavern, and costs only $5.
And it all goes to a very good cause: Wit will open a production of Martin McDonagh’s The Pillowman on June 22 at the Bug Theatre. Visit the company’s Facebook page for details.
