Art is changing faster than we can keep up with it, multiplying into novel and unique forms with help from new technologies and materials and broader ideas about what it actually constitutes. That’s the thinking behind the Arvada Center’s new exhibition series, Unbound, which explores the invented and immersive spaces of installation, digital and manipulated photographic works and how they set our minds to wonder and wander.
Center curator Collin Parson’s keen eye for innovative work, primarily by artists living in Colorado, will shine all summer long, beginning with tonight’s opening reception for a trio of many-faceted shows. In the main gallery, visitors will be able to walk through and interact with five site-specific micro-environments, while the upper and theater galleries will overflow with digital media and photographic worlds within worlds, all redefining how we interface with environments.
In addition, on June 26 a fourth component, Unbound: Sculpture in the Field, will join these three exhibits; a groundbreaking 27-sculpture outdoor landscape planned in collaboration with Cynthia Madden Leitner of the Museum of Outdoor Arts, it represents new possibilities for the Arvada Center, says Parson, who dreams of seeing it morph into a permanent sculpture garden. “We’re showing our potential with this,” he adds. “We want people to know that this is in no way a finished project.”
Attend today’s reception from 6 to 9 p.m. or lose yourself within Unbound‘s nearly limitless parameters through August 31 (Sculpture in the Field will remain on view for several more months beyond that).
