’Tis the season for department-store Santa Clauses – particularly the most infamous Father Christmas who ever worked at a Macy’s. And just in time for the holidays, the Arvada Center for the Arts and Humanities is staging Miracle on 34th Street, the Musical, based on the 1947 film and earlier novel, which tell the story of a jolly old man who claims to be the real Kris Kringle. The production echoes the movie by adding musical numbers and re-creating the romantic feeling of post-World War II New York City.
“We want people walking away with a sense of the holiday spirit, having their cup of mirth filled,” explains director Gavin Mayer. “We’re trying to create this production that’s really reminiscent of the movie, and also just trying to create a magical, spectacular event for people’s Christmas.”
Miracle on 34th Street, The Musical opens tonight at 7:30 p.m. at the Arvada Center, 6901 Wadsworth Boulevard, and runs through December 23.
