There are classic-car shows, and then there are classic-Volkswagen shows. Today’s seventh annual Syndicate VW Car Show is all about the celebration of the iconic, 76-year-old brand, which finds new fanatics each year.

“It’s a car that has kind of a smile, a characteristic shape and a long history that people identify with and want to be a part of,” says Rick Castro of Syndicate Car Club, organizer of the show.

Visitors can ogle vintage VWs and newer water-cooled models, mingle with VW vendors and other enthusiasts and enter for a chance to win a tricked-out sky-blue 1969 Volkswagen Beetle. Emceed by VW legend “Dyno” Don Chamberlain, this family-friendly event will also feature a kids’ play area and live music, as well as food and adult beverages for sale.

The VW show is free and runs from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. today at the Evergreen Lake House, 29612 Upper Bear Creek Road in Evergreen. Parking for spectators is off-site at Albertson’s, 30931 Stagecoach Boulevard in Evergreen; free shuttle service from Larry Miller VW will be provided. Will you step up to support Westword this year?

At Westword, we’re small and scrappy — and we make the most of every dollar from our supporters. Right now, we’re $22,750 away from reaching our December 31 goal of $50,000. If you’ve ever learned something new, stayed informed, or felt more connected because of Westword, now’s the time to give back.
