If you feel more at home in cowboy boots than dress shoes, then rustle up your posse and mosey down to the Colorado Rifle Club and May Farms for a weekend of Wild West fun. Today starting at 8 a.m., the High Plains Showdown rides into Byers for four days of competitive shooting, live music, gambling (for charity), whiskey drinking and an all-around good time. “They start early in the morning, and they shoot the hell out of stuff all day,” says Gary May, owner of May Farms. “But it’s set up like an Old West town, and they’ll have to jump out of a saloon window and shoot at three or four targets. Then they come out to May Farm and have one hell of a party. Friday’s Casino Night is a party you’re definitely going to talk about afterward.”

Catch the competitive shooting and vendors throughout the day at the Colorado Rifle Club, 75000 East 112th Avenue. All extracurricular activities — including tomorrow Casino Night, which benefits the Kempe Foundation — take place at May Farms, 64001 East Highway 36.

Events are free and open to the public. For more information, go to www.sandcreekraiders.com or call 303-822-5800.
