You would think that a hundred years after Denver citizens moaned so mightily about the worn condition of the Capitol building’s copper dome that they inspired local miners to donate gold to cover the ugly thing, somebody might have thought to commemorate the significant anniversary. Fortunately, several bodies did. Last month Colorado State Capitol Dome Tour Supervisor Theresa Holst and Assistant Manager of Visitor Services Simon Maghakyan worked with Art Institute of Colorado instructor Karen Wilcox and her students Angelina Ruggiero, Tyler Conway, Leah Nielsen, Shane Roberts, and Darius Baumgartner in bringing about several T-shirts inspired by the “breathtaking” Dome. Silk-screened by the local crafters at INDYINK, the designs were unveiled on May 9th by Speaker of the House Andrew Romanoff on the First Floor Rotunda of the State Capitol where shirts remain to be purchased for a thrifty $20.
