Never has there been a more delicious word combo than “chocolate” and “festival,” so thank your lucky stars that the 19th annual Creede Chocolate Festival starts today.
More than seventeen business owners and individuals will offer samples to taste and judge in hopes of winning the Taster’s Choice Award. Typically, samples involve the four basic food groups: milk chocolate, dark chocolate, white chocolate and chocolate truffles — but sometimes there’s a twist, such as the pinto-bean fudge recipe.

The Chocolate Festival, which runs today and tomorrow from 1 to 4 p.m., originated as an interesting and fun way to entice people to explore Creede’s business district and begin the holiday season. And speaking of holidays, be sure to bring the kids, because Santa and Mrs. Claus will visit both days. Tickets are $10 per day, and they typically sell out, so reservations are recommended.

Yeah, we know, Creede is about five hours away from Denver — so why not stay the night and enjoy the whole chocolate-filled weekend?

For more information about the festival, ticket reservations and lodging, contact the Creede-Mineral County Chamber of Commerce at 1-800-327-2102, 1-719-658-2374, or www.creede.com.
