Thirteen of Denver’s most popular restaurants will take part in the Great Chefs of the West tonight, an annual fundraiser for the National Kidney Foundation. But this year’s style will be a little different. “[It] is our signature event, and we wanted a fresh, new image, so we moved away from the tired old ballroom format and adopted a hipper, more informal cocktail party format,” says Kidney Foundation spokesman Jim Guttau.
Participating restaurants include Argyll GastroPub, Baur’s Ristorante, Catering by Design, Denver ChopHouse, Happy Cakes Bakeshop, Hard Rock Cafe, Jonesy’s EatBar, Marlowe’s, Second Home Kitchen and Bar, The Corner Office and Wystone’s Tea Bar. A trio of celebrity judges, including veterinarian and comedian Dr. Kevin Fitzgerald, Molly Hughes of CBS4 and Terry Vitale, editor of Colorado Expression magazine, will bicker over the best appetizer, entree, dessert and overall restaurant. The graze-and-greet kicks off at 6 p.m. with a cocktail reception and silent auction at EXDO Events Center, 1399 35th Street. That will be followed by passed appetizers, main dishes and sugar shocks. Individual tickets are $150, and young-professional tickets (ages 21 to 39) are $75. For more info, or to purchase tickets, visit www.kidneycimw.org/gcotw.
