Today is the deadline to vote for the next pick in the One Book, One Denver program. Your options: Hotel at the Corner of Bitter and Sweet, The Art of Racing in the Rain, and The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks.
Jef Otte wasn’t thrilled by the choices, following in a long tradition of Westword writers who’d rather see more Colorado-centric books by Jack Kerouac, or Mark Twain, or Kent Haruf, or David Wroblewski — if you cut off the last hundred pages of The Story of Edgar Sawtelle, and forget that he set it in the Midwest.
And because we’re not just a bunch of carpers, we’ll be coming up with our own summer reading program. But in the meantime, you still have a book to choose for Denver.
Denver, make your New Year’s Resolution Count!
We’re $17,500 away from our End-of-Year campaign goal, with just a five days left! We’re ready to deliver — but we need the resources to do it right. If Westword matters to you, please contribute today to help us expand our current events coverage when it’s needed most.
