Colorado Humanities and the Center for the Book have announced the winners of the 22nd annual Colorado Book Awards from 170 entries, and “the level of talent in Colorado is astonishing,” says Christine Goff, Colorado Book Awards coordinator.
The talent includes former Westword staff writer Harrison Candelarie Fletcher, whose book Descanso for My Father: Fragments of a Life won the award for best creative non-fiction.

But there are several other familiar names and faces on the list. Kristen Iversen’s Full Body Burden: Growing Up in the Nuclear Shadow of Rocky Flats took the prize for general non-fiction; she spoke with Patricia Calhoun about the surprise success of that book just two weeks ago.
Gary Reilly, a local taxi driver who had written twenty novels — none of the published — before he died in 2011, was a nominee in fiction; Alan Prendergast has covered his posthumous success. The winner in that category, East of Denver, by Gregory Hill, was an Internet sensation that we’ve written about numerous times on Show and Tell — and we’re sure we’ll be writing about Hill again.
