Since 1973, the organization Moving to End Sexual Assault (MESA) has lived up to its name by offering a hotline, services for survivors of assault, prevention education and much more. And for twelve years now, MESA has hosted the Canine Classic 5K run/walk, a Bolder Boulder qualifier at the Boulder Reservoir that you can traverse with the whole family — including the canine elements.

“We wanted to create an event that was really about bringing families together,” notes MESA team leader Lora Blakeslee-Atkinson. “We wanted a fun event that would get people out to the reservoir, but also bring awareness about MESA and have that conversation about what we do.”

Registration opens this morning at 7 a.m., and the 5K starts at 9 a.m., but try to be there at one of the two times when the Purina Pro Plan Performance Team — rescued dogs that perform training and agility demonstrations — shows its stuff. There will also be live music following the race.

Registration is $20 for kids, $25 for students and seniors, and $35 for adults; proceeds benefit MESA. For more information, visit canineclassicboulder.webs.com or www.movingtoendsexualassault.org.
