Niza Knoll Gallery’s annual canine-inspired art show Gone to the Dogs has received a lot of interesting submissions in the past four years, from paintings to sculptures to a real-life freeze-dried dog in a Victorian-era glass case. This year’s show will feature an all-new array of forty or so eclectic images of man’s best friend, juried by artists Dede LaRue and Dana Hawk.

“You can see all the different ways to do the same subject. We have dogs that are really abstract, dogs that are really crazy; I have a dog that’s peeing, lifting his leg up,” says Knoll, laughing. “This is such a dog city, so I just decided to do it a few years ago, since so many people love dogs and art that portrays them.” In addition to seeing art, attendees can also take a new pet home, as MaxFund will be on hand with adoptable dogs.

Gone to the Dogs opens tonight from 6 to 9 p.m. at Niza Knoll Gallery, 915 Santa Fe Drive, and will be on display through September 28. Visit nizaknollgallery.com for more information.
Fri., Aug. 16, 6-9 p.m.; Wednesdays-Saturdays. Starts: Aug. 16. Continues through Sept. 28, 2013
