To hear Nuclia Waste describe her crowd-pleasing performance of “The Twelve Drinks of Christmas” — a spoof on the classic holiday song that finds Denver’s dearest Cycle Slut waxing progressively more wasted as the routine progresses — you’d think the holidays had gone to the heathens. But, no: During Nuclia’s annual Island of Misfit Toys Show, the holidays just go to the drag queens.
This is an undeniably good thing. For the eighth straight year, Ms. Waste will host her comedic cabaret-style fundraiser for the Colorado AIDS Project Toy Drive. Along with lip-synched performances of “twisted comedy numbers” by fellow Cycle Sluts past and present, as well as other Imperial Court friends, audience members will be treated — and subjected — to a Survivor-style musical-chairs competition and drawings for wicked door prizes. All Nuclia asks in return is a $5 cover and as many department-store gift cards as attendees can afford.
“I always say it’s easier to take money from people when they’re laughing,” Waste quips. “Come expecting a really fun time, because you’re going to laugh more than you ever thought you could.”
Get twisted tonight at 7 p.m. at Lannie’s Clocktower Cabaret, 1601 Arapahoe Street. Go to www.nucliawaste.com for more.
