“The spirit of this event really embodies the mission of Mi Casa, which is that you truly can be anything you want to be,” says Cheryl Balchunas, events manager for Mi Casa Resource Center, a local nonprofit that assists Latino and low-income families achieve financial independence. The organization is hosting its Be Anything Luncheon today from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Denver Athletic Club, 1325 Glenarm Place, and the event, a major fundraiser for Mi Casa, includes a silent auction of “dream job” opportunities — including a stint as pastry chef at Azucar Bakery, Denver’s only Peruvian confectionary. “This really is about giving people real experiences, opportunities and memories,” says Balchunas, who notes that whoever wins the pastry-chef prize will “get to learn how to make a wedding cake from start to finish.”
Elizabeth Suarez, a University of Denver faculty member and nationally recognized entrepreneur and author, is the keynote speaker, and Ana Cabrera, Channel 7 anchor and reporter, will emcee. Tickets are $50 per person; for more info, call 303-539-5609.
