$20,000

A collective lust for food, cooking, comradery and community drives the Denver chef scene, and tonight at 6 p.m., sixteen of our city’s top toques will strut their stuff at EXDO Event Center for Great Chefs of the West, a fundraiser to support the endeavors of the National Kidney Foundation, a nonprofit that provides programs that identify and treat the early detection of kidney disease.

“This is an event that’s proven to be extremely popular in our community, and we’ve got a wonderful lineup of chefs who will battle it out for best appetizer, best entree, best dessert and best overall restaurant,” says Kathy Wegner, regional VP for the National Kidney Foundation. “It’s a really fun way to support what we do, and eighty-nine cents of every dollar we raise goes back to our community programs.”

The participating restaurants, which include Argyll, Jonesy’s EatBar, Second Home, the Corner Office, Baur’s and Happy Cakes Bakeshop, are expected to sling small plates for more than 500 gastronauts, who can also bid on food-related silent auction prizes like cooking classes and private chef dinners. Tickets to the extravaganza are $150 (or $75 if you’re a young professional under 39), and can be purchased at www.kidneycmw.org. EXDO Event Center is at 1399 35th Street.
