The Athena Project, which supports women in theater and the rest of the arts, spends the entire year getting ready for its spring festival — and that includes fundraising, because, well, the show must go on, and that’s how the nonprofit makes sure that it does. Now in its third year, Athena’s annual Mixology Competition puts the “fun” in “fundraiser” by pitting a half-dozen local bartenders against each other in a battle of creative, Athena-themed drink-mixing. Breckenridge Distillery provides the key ingredient, Breckenridge Bitters, and everyone gets to taste the concoctions.
Past drinks have included “the Spicy Maiden, a fruity drink with pineapple juice and spirits from Dancing Pines, and last year’s Demeter, an elixir of Breckenridge whiskey and pumpkin butter,” says Athena Project director Angela Astle. And this year, to keep spirits light, the event will also feature comedy by the all-female improv troupe Dishwater Blondes.
The evening of cocktail competitions and comedy starts at 7 p.m. at the Corner Office, 1401 Curtis Street; admission is $20 in advance or $22 at the door. For information or to reserve a seat, visit athenaprojectfestival.org.
