Whether or not you attended prom in high school, “it is sort of a pinnacle event,” notes Michelle Baldwin (aka Vivienne VaVoom), spokeswoman for the Ladies United for the Preservation of Endangered Cocktails (LUPEC). “And if you truly want to go to prom, it’s rather sad if the only reason you can’t go is because you don’t have the right outfit.”
The Prom Dress Exchange provides gently used formalwear for kids who would otherwise be unable to attend prom due to lack of party-frock funds, and LUPEC’s sixth annual LUPEC Sweetheart Prom is once again supporting the worthy cause through clothing and cash donations.
So dress in your finest and donate the rest tonight at the Arvada Tavern, 5707 Olde Wadsworth Boulevard in Arvada (enter through the phone booths to reach the prom location, speakeasy style). There will be a prom king and queen, a DJ, corsages for sale, a prom photo booth, a silent auction and, of course, cocktails. New this year are Cupid Notes. “You can send a little secret-admirer note to someone across the room, and we’ll deliver it in Cupid wings,” Baldwin explains. “And then if you want to find out who sent you that note, you can come back to us and we’ll give you the identity.”
