Get the lawn chairs folded, the picnic basket stuffed with goodies and the kids firmly in tow. The last film of the summer in the ultra-popular Boulder Outdoor Cinema series will be screened this Saturday night, August 30. The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers is not just for confirmed Tolkien fans; it will also engage fantasy and movie lovers of every stripe. Truth be told, though, the real star of the show is the setting: a balmy summer night under the stars, reclining in the chaise longue while Frodo and company do their thing. A nice postmodern alternative to the horn-honking, fogged-window drive-ins of yore, the Boulder Outdoor experience is more mellow, more congenial — more Boulder. And this summer’s selections have been family-friendly, to say the least, including everything from Ice Age to The Lion King. Screenings are at 1750 13th Street in Boulder; gates open at 7 p.m., and Towers comes on at 8:30. Tickets are $5 for adults, $3 for children under twelve. Alas, no booze and no pets, the culture police decree. Still, it’s a wonderful experience, even without your cold Bud and beloved Bozo. For details, call 303-444-1351.
