It’s surprising that Boulder, of all places, didn’t have a market specifically devoted to handmade goods — until recently, that is. That situation changed with the arrival of Firefly Handmade Market. “We weren’t really sure why there was nothing like it in Boulder,” says Allison Bozeman, one of Firefly’s organizers. “But we just really believe in handmade and indie crafters who directly sell their wares. I like the idea of people being able to tell their story while they sell their goods, and we felt it was something missing from Boulder and that Boulder would embrace.”
The seasonal market is taking on a “gypsy farm” theme for the fall, and you’ll find everything from art to jewelry to kids’ clothes to grown-up clothes to handmade soaps to salt caramels. “We’ve gotten e-mails and phone calls and people on Facebook all thanking us for bringing these people together to have such a fun event, and uplifting the idea of small businesses,” Bozeman adds.
The market is free to attend and will run from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. today and 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. tomorrow at Boulder Junction, 3390 Valmont Road in Boulder; learn more at http://fireflyhandmade.com.
Sat., Sept. 17, 9 a.m.-9 p.m.; Sun., Sept. 18, 9 a.m.-3 p.m., 2011
