In the introduction to their new book, One Nation Under Sex, authors Larry Flynt and David Eisenbach outline their mission pretty explicitly: “We are not out to dish gossip; we want to add a new dimension to American history.” That dimension, not surprisingly, is the sexual history of our leaders, from senators to first ladies.
The revelations contain a collection of lost histories that includes Eleanor Roosevelt’s lesbian relationships, President James Buchanan’s gay love affair and plenty of other high-profile leaders’ illicit relationships that have been swept under the rug and left out of history books. The goal, say the authors, isn’t to take down these great leaders, but to humanize them by shedding light on their private lives in a way that adds context to their public decisions.
Flynt and Eisenbach will be at the Tattered Cover LoDo, 1628 16th Street, tonight at 7:30 p.m. to sign and read from the book. Admission is free, but seating is limited; numbered tickets will be given out starting at 6:30 p.m. for both the presentation and the signing. For more information, go to www.tatteredcover.com.
