There are big openings of shows at the Denver Art Museum and Museum of Contemporary Art that explore international and Californian phenomena — but don’t miss the exhibit opening tonight at Robischon Gallery that touts imagery from right in our own back yard.
Appropriated: The Chronicled West, which will be celebrated at an opening reception from 6 to 8 p.m. tonight, features the work of a quartet of homegrown artists working in the milieu of the West. Four completely different visions — Stephen Batura’s monumental and painstaking recreations of photographs documenting trainwrecks, Edie Winograde’s photographs of historical re-enactors, Jerry Kunkel’s take on the great romantic painters of the West and Gary Emrich’s Western kitsch images — provide a whole landscape of possibilities.
