Craig Robb, unpredictable fortunes of existence
Pirate Contemporary Art

Opening reception, 6 to 10 p.m., May 16
Sculptor Craig Robb will grace Pirate’s walls with a new series of his signature wood-and-steel works, constructed from materials that complement one another like iron and wine, entwined in contrary rippled and straight-edged shapes. Jason Theel’s whimsical clay works will be on display in the associate gallery.
Shiny Food Fever Clearance: New Works by Nicholas Toll

Opening reception, 7 to 10 p.m. May 16
A Denverite by way of New Mexico, artist Nicholas Toll is interested by food (as a chef as well as an artist), which will play a major role in this installation of two- and three-dimensional abstracted artworks at Leon. This is art for the foodie in everyone.
Chinn Wang and Failure Lab, God Save The Teens
MCA Denver
6 to 9 p.m. Friday, May 16
Failure — at least in terms of its implications of risk and chance-taking — is a hot-button topic in the arts community these days, and that’s the concept behind MCA’s Failure Lab teen internship program, which provides an incubator for ideas. Tonight, the teens, with artist/mentor Chinn Wang, will show off an exhibit exploring issues of identity. Admission for fellow teens is free (as it always is at MCA for those eighteen and under), and food, drink and music are included.
