Fabulous costumes and makeup are a part of everyday life for drag queens. But when Halloween rolls around, it’s time to kick it up a notch. This year, Tracks Night Club is mashing up Halloween with its monthly Drag Nation show to bring you an all-out freak show. The club will be decked out as a spooky carnival, complete with circus performers and drag queens Adore Delano, Gia Gunn and reigning host Nina Flowers.
Jorge Flores Sanchez, who portrays Flowers, says that every drag performer takes Halloween very seriously. In fact, Sanchez considers it the second most important holiday in the gay community after PrideFest. “We’re always dressed up in costumes, and our fans are usually seeking the beauty aspect,” he says. “But Halloween is different. It allows us to step out of the box and encourages us to be creative.”
To inspire people to get into the spirit, Tracks is offering one of the biggest costume-contest prizes in the state: The winner can choose between $2,000 or a trip to Las Vegas to see Justin Timberlake in concert, with hotel and airfare included.
Halloween Freak Show starts at 9 p.m. at Tracks, 3500 Walnut Street; tickets are $15 in advance at partyearth.com or $20 at the door. Learn more at tracksdenver.com.
