Denver drummer and DJ Skip Reeves, aka Skip the Funktologist, is a generous man who will host a fundraiser at the drop of a hat. Tonight the Funktologist will give it up for one of the area’s premier cultural ensembles: the trailblazing Shadow Theatre Company, which in recent years has suffered from the effects of a weak economy and the tragic loss of founder Jeffrey Nickelson.
You can do your bit by joining Reeves, known for his A Funk Above the Rest show on public radio station KUVO, and the local party band Soul School for An Evening of Funk, starting at 8:30 p.m. at Jazz@Jack’s, 500 16th Street in the Denver Pavilions. A $15 fee at the door (or order a ticket in advance for $10) will not only help Shadow continue to serve the community by presenting theater with an African-American focus, but will guarantee you a good time. For reservations, go to www.shadowtheatre.com or call 720-857-8000.
