Brazilian music and dance will take Boulder by storm this week when the Boulder Samba School presents Colorado Brazil Fest, a three-day cultural-immersion festival featuring music and dance performances, workshops, capoeira demonstrations and traditional Brazilian cuisine at various Boulder locations.

“What’s unique about Brazilian music and culture is the commencement of energy and the liveliness in music and dance,” says Boulder Samba School president Greg LaLiberte. “We resonate with that energy and want to share that with people here in this country.”

The first annual festival will showcase local talent in must-see events such as Thursday’s Roda de Samba concert with Boulder-based ensemble Ginga at the Laughing Goat (1709 Pearl Street) — an informal show full of alegría, or joy — and Saturday’s finale at the Boulder Theater (2010 14th Street), featuring performances by local Brazilian music group Sambadende and Corpo do Samba dance troupe.

“Don’t be shy — come join in with the dance and the percussion classes and find out what this music is all about,” says LaLiberte, “because it’s really, really fun.”
