Take one bad action movie, add a pair of smart-ass movie geeks riffing on it in real time, and you have the high-concept, low-brow comedic brilliance of Mile High Sci-Fi. This month the MHSF crew tackles the little-loved Arnold Schwarzenegger gem Raw Deal, a convoluted tale of Mafia dons, corruption and FBI vengeance that shows off Arnie in all his early musclebound, meatheaded glory.
“This one is easily his best worst movie. He’s just starting out as an action star, and it shows,” observes MHSF co-founder Harrison Rains. “[It’s also] a tribute to the Tour de France, in honor of performance-enhancing drugs. Allegedly. We’re inviting DJ Williams from the Broncos. And anyone who comes in ’roided up gets $3 off.”
Joining Rains for the fun is Kevin O’Brien, of the “These Things Matter” podcast (available at thesethingsmatterpodcast.tumblr.com), which will dedicate its show this week to the brilliance of B-movies like this one.
