“Vegans, vegetarians and omnivores welcome!” says Mike Stabler of Rocky Mountain Animal Defense’s first-ever Turkey-Free Thursday dinner, taking place today at 1 p.m. at Highlands United Methodist Church, 3131 Osceola Street. Govinda’s Buffet, run by the International Society for Krishna Consciousness, will cater the feast. “They worship cows,” says Stabler. “How could an animal-rights group like us not want to collaborate with them?”
RMAD produces a booklet called Compassionate Living: A Colorado Guide to Vegetarianism (go to www.rmad.org to get a copy), and this meatless holiday dinner is an extension of that public service. As the only vegetarian Thanksgiving buffet in the metro area this year, RMAD is making sure its Turkey-Free Thursday is fabulous. You’ll be greeted warmly at the door and taken to your table. After the buffet, a silent auction will take place, and various animal-rights organizations will host information tables. In addition, participants in tomorrow morning’s Fur-Free (Black) Friday campaign at the Cherry Creek mall will have the chance to get together and do some networking.
