Sit down and take a load off, because tonight, the humble chair will be elevated and celebrated at Chaircuterie, an art party and a fundraiser for the American Institute of Graphic Arts Colorado and the Denver Art Museum Design Council. More than one hundred chair-inspired works will be showcased and auctioned off during the event; the collection, created by such local and national artists and designers as Ethan Hutchinson, Mike Giant and Mario Zoots, includes functional furniture as well as sculptural works and two-dimensional pieces.
“The different interpretations of what a chair can be is very exciting,” says Elysia Syriac of AIGA, which partnered with the Denver Design Council, the Denver Art Museum and Denver Arts & Venues for Chaircuterie. “A chair in your mind might look like one thing, but someone else might have a very different view of that. Here you get to see a chair one hundred different ways.”
The dance troupe Wonderbound will contribute a live chair-inspired performance, and cocktails will be flowing.
Money raised through the auction will benefit AIGA’s mentorship and scholarship programs, as well as the DAM’s Department of Architecture, Design and Graphics. Chaircuterie kicks off at 7 p.m. at the McNichols Building, 144 West Colfax Avenue. Tickets start at $40; get yours and more information at chaircuterie.com.
