First impressions don’t always hold true. So if you think CU-Boulder’s Goldberger Week of Jewish Culture is synonymous with dull and academic, think again. Designed this year to tie in with the university’s ambitious ongoing series MoVeRs: Jewish Mavericks, Visionaries and Rebels, the week’s programs include not only the lectures you’d expect (about everything from Jewish Communists in the 1930s to a new Jewish vision of Jesus and Paul), but also a documentary screening, a fresh Middle Eastern hip-hop concert and “human beat-box” Yuri Lane’s street-wise performance piece From Tel Aviv to Ramallah: A Hip Hop Travelogue of Peace (see www.westword.com/2007-03-08/calendar/beatbox-thespians).

Tonight’s event, a screening of Arguing the World at 7 p.m. at the Boulder Jewish Community Center, 3800 Kalmia Avenue, tells the story of Jewish intellectuals and influential political thinkers Irving Howe, Daniel Bell, Nathan Glazer and Irving Kristol, whom Jewish Studies expert Matthew Hoffman will discuss afterward; the film begins at 7 p.m. and costs $6 to $8 (or free for students with valid IDs). For a complete Goldberger Week schedule, as well as details and tickets (many events are free), go to www.jewishmovers.org.
