Independent Journalism in Denver Needs You
We need to raise $25,000 by August 9 to support the reporting our community depends on. Reader support keeps us independent and is playing a larger role in funding local journalism and shaping what comes next. If you believe independent local journalism matters, make a contribution today.
The last time Vail tried a Gay Ski Week, it didn’t amount to much. But after an interim, it’s back with a brave new ramped-up approach crafted by the same folks who bring you the popular Telluride Gay Ski Week. Along with your basic meet-up meals, après-ski gatherings and slope sliding at a discount, Gay Ski Week participants will get more party for their buck during Vail’s 2010 Out on the Mountain, which kicks off tonight with a party in the Vail Plaza Hotel’s Umbria Ballroom and continues through January 31.
Spa parties, pancake breakfasts, bar tours, a benefit gala, a beer bust and even a polar-bear swim round out the extra-long weekend’s off-mountain events, and, in a bow to the “L” in GLBT, Out on the Mountain is also throwing such lesbian-friendly events as the Turtle Bus Sex Toy Ride and Livid Lesbian Wrestling at the Samana Lounge. “It’s really getting people talking,” notes spokeswoman Calli Adkisson of the event, which raises funds for the GLBT Community Center of Colorado. To find out what they’re talking about and to register, go to www.vailgayskiweek.com or call 877-411-8245.
