Independent Journalism in Denver Needs You

We need to raise $25,000 by August 9 to support the reporting our community depends on. Reader support keeps us independent and is playing a larger role in funding local journalism and shaping what comes next. If you believe independent local journalism matters, make a contribution today.

$25,000

Now that Halloween’s over, we can get on with the real holiday: Dia de los Muertos.

The official day is November 2, but the festivities kick off at 5:30 p.m. tonight when the Dia de Los Muertos Procession y Danza will take off from Columbus Park at West 38th Avenue and Navajo Street, then wind through the streets to Escuela Tlatelolco, 2949 Federal Boulevard. Then Friday, the party will be back on Navajo, when Pirate opens its annual Day of the Dead show.

But in the meantime, the spirit of the holiday was alive and well at Lola last night, when a Virgin of Guadalupe outfit won the costume contest — a stunning design that also honored the spirit of northwest Denver.
