Barry Ross has been illustrating other people’s experiences for 25 years; a regular column in Flying Magazine, “I Learned About Flying From That,” includes Ross’s pen, ink, watercolor and acrylic art. The stories are sometimes frightening and sometimes comical, but each one contains a lesson learned.
Not everyone is familiar with Ross’s ability to capture a pivotal moment, but that can be remedied at Wings Over the Rockies Air & Space Museum, 7711 East Academy Boulevard, by viewing the traveling exhibit “I Learned About Flying From That”: The Aviation Art of Barry Ross. A collection of forty framed works — all with accompanying anecdotes — goes on display today and stays up through June 30. The museum will open early, at 9 a.m., for a special presentation by Ross himself.
That’s not all the museum has planned to celebrate Ross’s work. “We thought, let’s follow it up and do something on a local level,” says Jill Bagdasarian, the museum’s director of marketing and development. So on the first Tuesday of every month — April 3, May 1 and June 5 — area pilots will share their own personal lessons in aviation.
Museum admission is $5 to $7, free for members and children under age four. Call 303-360-5360 or visit www.wingsmuseum.org for information.
