Want to walk off those Thanksgiving leftovers and also avoid the mobs at the mall? The Victorian Holiday Home Tour, now in its third year, is a Saturday-afternoon jaunt along East Colfax Avenue, with tours of seven historic homes all gussied up for the holidays. “What we’d really like is for people to recognize the history of the upper Colfax district, how beautiful it is, and what a wonderful, fun place it is to come and visit,” explains Stephanie Salazar of the Colfax Business Improvement District.
Last year, district organizers were surprised and delighted when a large group showed up in full Victorian garb, so for this year’s event, they’re encouraging everyone to wear their finest petticoats and top hats for a costume contest. However, dressing up isn’t a requirement, and whether you’re covered in lace or Gore-Tex, you’ll get to see the inside of buildings like the Baily/Siller’s Mansion and the Castle Marne Bed & Breakfast and enjoy music by the Original Dickens Carolers, taffy from Hammond’s Candies and free horse-drawn carriage rides.
The Victorian Holiday Home Tour runs from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. today; it begins at Castle Marne, 1572 Race Street. A portion of the ticket price — $12 in advance and $15 at the door — will go to support the Denver Children’s Home. For more information, visit www.colfaxave.com.
