Do you make an annual resolution to forgo tacky New Year’s Eve parties — and then forget to keep it? You’re not alone, as proved by the crowds drunkenly tipping champagne glasses and kissing strangers under confetti each year. But there is hope. Howl New Year’s Eve, a soirée and a performance with a sense of history, might be the right party for you. Moving this year to the swell new Syntax Physic Opera, Howl goes down in 2014 with a turn-of-the-century theme.
“It’s about a medicine show, where all of these musicians and performers and installations are working together to create an elixir that will put you on a good road to health next year,” explains spokeswoman Jessie de la Cruz. “Everything alludes to the time period when Buffalo Bill shows romanticized the West.” Period costumes are encouraged, she adds: “Each guest plays as much of a part in shaping the environment as the performers do. We don’t want people to have a cookie-cutter experience at Howl. Every year, there’s a new narrative.”
Howl kicks off at 8 p.m. at Syntax, 554 South Broadway, and tickets range from $35 for general admission to $130 for a VIP package. For information and reservations, go to howlnewyearseve.com.
