Denver’s skyline has transformed dramatically since Mary Voelz Chandler’s first edition of the Guide to Denver Architecture was released in 2001. Tonight she celebrates the publishing of a new, updated version, Guide to Denver Architecture, 2nd Edition, a 300-plus-page look at the city’s ever-changing architectural face, highlighting new builds and classic structures in neighborhoods across the Mile High City.
A master at focusing on the balance of preservation and innovation, Voelz Chandler is both opinionated and insightful. “I started reacting and responding to buildings when I was a little kid — it’s intellectual, it’s emotional and it’s visceral,” says Voelz Chandler. A long-time art and design critic for the Rocky Mountain News, she now works in the field directly, as a communications specialist with G.H. Phipps Construction.
Voelz Chandler will be joined by members of the Denver Architectural Foundation for a panel discussion of her new book starting at 7:30 p.m. at the Tattered Cover LoDo, 1628 16th Street; a signing by the author will follow. The event is free; for more information, visit fulcrumpublishinginc.com.
