Most of Spun, the Denver Art Museum’s summer mélange of textile-related exhibits, is already open, but many will consider Nick Cave: Sojourn its centerpiece. Focusing on Cave’s signature mixed-media assemblages and Soundsuits (fabulous wearable costumes stitched together with found objects and unusual fibers and designed to make sounds when worn), Sojourn will delight audiences of all ages with its sophisticated blend of color and whimsy.

“Nick Cave’s imaginative creations cross the divide between art and dance, display and performance,” notes DAM director Christoph Heinrich. And that will be no more evident than during this month’s last-Friday Untitled event at the museum on June 28, where local professional dancers and a contingent of community members chosen by Cave at auditions earlier this year will dance for the public, wearing the whispering, jangling, rustling, whooshing, tinkling Soundsuits. Plan ahead, as attendance at the performance requires additional ticketing. This will be a one-of-a-kind experience.

Sojourn opens today and continues through September 22 at the DAM, 100 West 14th Avenue Parkway; museum admission ranges from $3 to $13. Visit denverartmuseum.org for information.

Tuesdays-Thursdays, Saturdays, Sundays, 10 a.m.-5 p.m.; Fridays, 10 a.m.-8 p.m. Starts: June 9. Continues through Sept. 22, 2013
