Haunted houses, common in October, are unusual for mid-November, but that’s just one of the ways HorrorHouse Fest veers from your typical haunted-house setup. For one thing, it’s more of a haunted bar – or at least it takes place in a bar. For another, the “haunt” here is actually a serial killer who stalks you through his house of horrors. Third, it’s more about film, with the work of local filmmakers playing throughout the experience.
“It’s like a serial killer has taken over 3 Kings, and you’re going through the place avoiding him,” explains creator Ryan Policky. “Short films are scattered along the way. It’s going to be a weird experience for most people.”
After the trip through the killer’s gore-soaked abode, a showing of ThanksKilling 3 will cap off the evening. Throw in a room full of vendors selling all manner of horror-related paraphernalia and an eerie, dark soundtrack performed live by Eddie Breidenbach of local horror-industrial outfit Genessier, and November is well on its way to horror greatness.
HorrorHouse Fest runs from 8 to 11 p.m., followed by the ThanksKilling 3 screening, at 3 Kings Tavern, 60 South Broadway. For tickets, $10, and additional info, visit tiny.cc/Horrorhouse13.
