It’s time to pull out your gear and wax down your board, because the fifth annual Premature Jibulation happens today. Echo Mountain — located less than an hour from downtown Denver at 19285 Highway 103 in Idaho Springs — hosts the early-season, jam-format jib contest presented by the Rome Snowboard Design Syndicate. Each event will be littered with rails and boxes, and winners will walk away with a Rome Artifact board, Rome 390 bindings and other swag.
Premature Jibulation takes place all across North America and Europe through November and December. It’s good, clean shred action with no entry fee, but you must purchase an Echo Mountain hiking pass or pre-season lift ticket. The fun starts at 9 a.m. and typically draws upwards of 100 competitors.
For all you squares, “jibbing” means to snowboard on obstacles that were not originally intended for riding. This includes picnic tables, garbage cans, rock walls, boulders and trees.
Let’s all pray for snow!
