Last year, Boulderite John Georgis bought a school bus on eBay that came from Moline, Illinois. He tore off the roof and added logs, wood paneling — recycled, of course — and a rubber chicken. Inside, he installed saddles, recliners, a couch and disco balls. Thus, Banjo Billy’s Bus Tours were born, with Georgis as the guide.

In his first year, Banjo Billy took 4,000 people on wild ninety-minute rides through Boulder’s history, spinning tales of ghosts, crime and the genuinely bizarre. Now he’s branching out to offer the Bolder Boulder Tour, named for this weekend’s famous Memorial Day 10K and featuring a who’s who of some of the city’s most famous runners. “Boulder does have a huge athletic population,” Georgis notes.

The tours take off from the Hotel Boulderado, 2115 13th Street, at 2 p.m. and 6 p.m. today through Monday. For tickets, $16, or more information, visit www.banjobilly.com or call 720-771-0087.
May 26-29, 2 & 6 p.m.

If you’ve ever learned something new, stayed informed, or felt more connected because of Westword, now’s the time to give back.
