Chuck Roy’s Spaghetti Western Comedy Show returns to Jake’s Food and Spirits this month with a fittingly spooky theme for the season, a new monthly guest star, and a generous servings of giggles and meatballs. The unique brainchild of Denver comic Chuck Roy, the show combines a spaghetti dinner with a live old-school radio play, complete with sound effects. It’s just like an actual spaghetti Western movie, except the laughs and homoeroticism are intentional.
“The Spaghetti Western Comedy Show is unlike any other comedy show running in town,” says local standup Jordan Wieleba, who also narrates the show in fine radio-play fashion. In the starring role of cowboy comedian Bear, Roy heads up a regular cast of quick-draw joke slingers that includes Mona Lott, Bradley Haltom and Jill Tasei. This month’s episode, “The Ghost Killers at Cheesman Park,” also features October special guest star Timmi Lasley.
“You have stand-up comedians doing a live, half-scripted, half-improv, old-timey radio show with an Old West theme, and every month you still don’t know what you’re going to get,” Wieleba explains. “It’s always a fun show with some great comedic talent. And there are cap guns!”
The show begins at 8 p.m. at Jake’s Food and Spirits, 3800 Walnut Street; if you’re hungry, a pre-show spaghetti dinner is available. Admission is $10, with a two-drink minimum; reserve tickets or get details at jakesdenver.com.
