A seasoned DJ, producer and live performer, Berlin-by-way-of-Vancouver’s Todd Shillington — aka Konrad Black — has roots in drum-and-bass and hip-hop, but he’s best known today as one of the founders (with Mathew Jonson, Graham Boothby and Jesse Fisk) of the international techno and house label Wagon Repair. Early in his career, Shillington collaborated with dub-house progenitors Swayzak, and later, with jungle icons Ed Rush and Optical, ironically moving away from broken-beat shortly thereafter — though his production work often retains the tenebrous and jagged sounds of that early influence. Wagon Repair has released music by Denver producer the Missing Link and ex-local Crazy Larry (as Glacier, with Chilean producer Pier Bucci). Black’s latest is Get Weird, a three-track tech-house EP also featuring Matthew Deekay and Lee Burridge.
