Some might say that feminism is dead, but the Museum of Contemporary Art’s annual lecture series, Feminism & Co., says otherwise. The semi-regular examinations of art, culture, sex and politics delve into issues relating to women and gender using film, creative performances, discussions and more.
This season, Feminism & Co. is tackling an array of topics, starting with tonight’s kick-off session, Toys & Tupperware. It’s a look at the history and sociology of women’s home-based businesses, starting with those ’70s-era Tupperware parties and continuing through today’s trends — including the adult sex-toy parties (think Passion Parties) that have taken the candle/jewelry/Tupperware home-parties concept to a whole new level. This round of Feminism & Co. will feature Passion Party consultant Kirstin McKay, Tupperware lady Joannie Flynn and sociologists Susan Williams and Michelle Bemiller.
Other Feminism & Co. topics this season include horses, crafts and music. The reception starts at 6 p.m., and the program begins at 6:30; admission is $12 for members, $17 for the general public, and season passes are a mere $40. (And guys aren’t left out in the cold: They drink for free at Feminism & Co. programs.) The MCA is at 1485 Delgany Street; call 303-298-7554 or visit www.mcadenver.org.
