“If you’re anything like me,” admits Jeff Huling, chief operating officer of RIP-COREFX, “the first time I saw this device I was like, ‘Oh, man, come on. Another gizmo? Another commercial?’ If you feel that way, welcome to the club. Everyone feels that way at first.”

Slick salesmen that he is, though, Huling is convinced that the RIP-COREFX — an asymmetrically loaded resistance-training tool not unlike the TRX line of workout devices — is perfect for Colorado’s active (and statistically less obese) population. “What’s cool about this is that you can just grab one and throw it in your backpack,” he explains, “then bike down to the park and do it yourself. You can click it around a tree, hook it to a park bench, do it on a fence — just about anything in the park.”

Clever, then, that Huling and company are hosting today’s Rip in the Park, a sixty-minute group workout accompanied by music from DJ Steve Spinosa, in Washington Park. Instructors will be on hand to guide participants through both core and custom moves based on chosen sports and ability levels; massage therapists will calm muscles afterward; and a handful of healthy-food vendors will help exercisers recharge.

The free workout begins at 9 a.m. sharp in the area north of the tennis courts at East Kentucky Avenue and South Downing Street. For more information, go to www.ripcorefx.com or www.facebook.com/ripcorefx.
