In addition to putting on an off-the-wall performing arts carnival each summer, the Boulder Fringe Festival also hosts a resident performing group — and now that group’s C.R.A.B. (Constantly Risking Absurdity, Baby!) salon has morphed into Crabaret, a monthly show that premieres tonight at 6:30 p.m. at the b.side lounge, 2017 13th Street in Boulder.
“It’s a variety show hosted by an eccentric band and theatrical ensemble,” notes the Fringe Festival’s Abbey Pleviak. Here’s what the Crabaret troupe will be pulling out of its hat tonight: a mixture of physical theater, burlesque dancing, bagpipe music and more, with special guests including Boulder erotic-dance teacher Lisa Fasullo, whose Whirl troupe will perform a risqué burlesque, and Franky J. Kabaam, a sexy ladies’-man escape artist who frees himself from a cage of women’s lingerie.
In celebration of the Boulder Fringe Festival’s recent designation as a nonprofit, Crabaret will set aside some time at each month’s show to spotlight another nonprofit; the FOCUS Prisoner Re-entry Mentor Project gets the nod this time out. Come to the Crabaret on the second Wednesday of every month; admission is $3 to $5, plus an optional $6 for an all-night drink special.
