History Colorado offers live-performance programming to supplement its educational offerings for a couple of reasons. “We bring in live performers to help history come to life,” says visitor-experience coordinator Alison Salutz, “as well as to showcase the amazing amount of talent we have in our state.”
Salutz notes that the center tries to incorporate new, interactive elements on a regular basis, from sushi hand-roll demonstrations to musicians. But one of its most successful programs is also one of its oldest: the regular Life of a Buffalo Soldier program. “Our Buffalo Soldier has been coming for a few summers and is always very popular,” says Salutz. “Tim Johnson, our actor, plays Sergeant Jack Hackett and interacts in first person with visitors. He explains what life was like as a Buffalo Soldier and answers visitors’ questions.”
Find Hackett in the Colorado Stories exhibit today (and again on August 5) from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. at History Colorado, 1200 Broadway.
